Five students celebrated the Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) rite Sunday, April 19, at Ostmark Lutheran Church-ELCA, of rural Watkins. The special service included the individual laying on of hands with a blessing for each students. Family members, Godparents and baptismal sponsors were invited forward to participate in the latter. They included many of the 127 who attended worship. Rev. Melhus presented all of the current Confirmation students with individual stoneware "begging Bowls," handmade to match the church communion ware by Tom Wirt and Betsy Price of the Clay Coyote of Hutchinson. Kyle Keith Lundin, son of Keith and Stephanie Lundin of Litchfield was also baptized that day. Baptismal sponsors are Jesse Stueber of Atwater, Mike Boll, Karlene Hoffmann and Eric Johnson, all of Litchfield. The Confirmation students have studied The Small Catechism by Martin Luther and the Bible during the three-year program. Service within the church and community have also been part of the program. Confirmation students regularly participate in Sunday worship; assist with Sunday School, summer Vacation Bible School, and other church functions; and have conducted the Mid-week Lenten Services at Ostmark for the past two years. The students and parents, together with other members of the Confirmation class have worked hard with numerous fundraisers to go to Confirmation Camp in August at Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer.
