Lloyd Kunkel of Marty died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70. Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Lloyd's life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Marty, with Fr. Jerry Nordick and Fr. Charles Kunkel officiating. Burial was at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Lloyd C. Kunkel was born April 15, 1939, in Marty to Roman and Elsie (Beumer) Kunkel. He maried Marlene Kuechle July 30, 1960 at St. Anthony Cathiolic Church in Watkins. Lloyd farmed at marty and was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was active with the Holy Cross Parish Men's Society and the Knights of Columbus. Lloyd enjoyed bowling, golfing, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was an avid amateur baseball fan, having played for and watched the Pearl Lake Lakers for many years. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Marlene; children Kevin Kunkel of Marty, Lori (and Jim) Hunt of South Haven, Brian (and Annette) Kunkel of Rogers, Norman (and Kelli) Kunkel of Elk River, David (and Tanya) Kunkel of Marty; grandchildren Jeffrey, Karl, Cameron, and Madelyn Hunt of South Haven; Cassidie and Kurtis Kunkel of Rogers; Adam, Anna, Joey, and Jacob Kunkel of Elk River; Natasha and Natalee Kunkel of Marty. Music was by Jolene Faber-Andrusick. Honorary casket bearers were Lud Lochen, Jim Korman, Larry Kunkel, Andy Kunkel, Pete Merten, and Richard Heinen. Casket bearers were Mitch Bates, Rob Bates, Steve Bates, Shawn Kunkel, John Flis and Kurt Kunkel. Arrangements were by the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
