Education Resource Fair for dislocated workers

St. Cloud Technical College, CTEC-Customized Training and Education Center and the Minnesota WorkForce Center are joining forces to offer an Education Resource Fair for workers who are unemployed or under-employed and may be seeking information about both short-term and long-term education and training options. The fair will be offered April 30 from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. Cloud Technical College. Representatives from the college, customized training and the WorkForce Center will be on hand to advise students how to access free services such as caqreer assessments, career interest testing, financial aid counseling, career counseling, on-line education options, tours, and much more. "We are getting calls every day from individuals who tell us they have been laid off from their jobs and they are looking at the lay off as an opportunity to explore new options," said SCTC president Joyce Helens. "At SCTC, we are responsive to the changing needs of our community and therefore we want to be there to help now in this present economic situation." The technical college offers more than 35 one- and two-year diploma and degree options in career areas that have strong growth potential. CTEC-Customized Training and Education Center offers non-credit programs designed to help indivuduals learn new skills or brush up in areas such as medical, manufacturing, health, truck driving, and computers. The WorkForce Center will outline the process that may allow students to access free educational funding. "It's imperative we act quickly to meet the needs of the residents and businesses in Stearns, Benton and the surrounding communities," said Kathy Zavala, Executive Director of the Stearns-Benton Employment & Training Council. "Our relationship with SCTC allows us to offer dislocated workers financial aid for training and help them to retool for high-demand jobs."
