Tim Hurrle recognized at ag show

Tim Hurrle of St. Cloud (center) was honored by DEKALB® corn at the 2009 Commodity Classic for his first-place state finish in the 2008 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA). Hurrle, who farms on Hurrle Farms, was awarded first place in the Irrigated category. His winning entry was with DEKALB DKC61-69 brand. In recognition of this achievement, Monsanto awarded Hurrle a trip for two to the recent 2009 Commodity Classic in Grapevine, Texas, and a commemorative plaque. At the Commodity Classic, he had the opportunity to speak with agribusiness leaders, learn from industry experts and network with other successful farmers from around the country. "We were proud to honor Tim Hurrle at this year's Commodity Classic," said Chris Peterson, DEKALB Corn Marketing Manager. "His success exemplifies what is possible with the combination of industry-leading DEKALB genetics and superior crop-management skills, and illustrates why farmers can be confident in their decision to plant DEKALB brand products." From 2007 to 2008, the percentage of DEKALB winners increased by 35 percent. Tim Hurrle has been farming for 25 years and planting DEKALB corn for 20. "Compared to other brands, DEKALB corn is higher yielding, more drought tolerant and has better standability," Hurrle said. He raises corn, soybeans and wheat.
