Legal Notice REGULAR MEETING Unofficial Minutes Board of Education March 18, 2009 Ind. School District 739 Kimball, Minn. The meeting was called to order by Chair Helgeson at 6:30 p.m., with all members except Stenger present. Member Stenger arrived at 6:47 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all in attendance. Motion by Dockery, seconded by Laabs to approve the agenda as presented. MC Julie Lochen and Ktlynn Smallwood, officers of the senior class, were present to address the Board. With the support of Principal Widvey, a letter was presented to the Board requesting early dismissal for the senior class. Seniors would not be required to attend class on May 26-28 and in return would perform an act of community service for the school district and would be held accountable for their actions for the remainder of the school year. Motion by Laabs, seconded by Zipoy to approve the request as presented. The Board thanked the senior officers and wished them well with the remainder of the school year. MC Celebration and successes of students and staff included results from instrumental and vocal music solo and ensemble contests. Students receiving instrumental music awards were: Sub-Section Excellent-Sarah Powell and Becky Vossen; Section/ State Excellent-Burke Tagney, Ashley Kalkbrenner; Section/ State Superior-Erin Gilpatrick, Stephan Kurkosky, Megan Jones, Abby Zoller, Chelsie Colwill, Brooke Merten, Shantel Tschida, Shannon Donnay, Tesslyn Callander, Ryan Stein, Sydney Ashbrook, Jared Capes, Beth Libbesmeier, Natalie Stein, Michael Rose, Sarah Powell, Kelsey Theisen, Kristina Mackereth, Tiffany Berscheid, Andy Dingmann, Rachel Lahr, Brian Wills, Tyler Gregory, Pat Libbesmeier, Kyle Messer, and Burke Tagney. Students receiving vocal music awards were: Subsection Excellent-Rochelle Bach, Nick Anderson; Subsection Superior/ State Section Excellent-Nick Anderson, Rochelle Bach, Maria Donnay, Mellissa Huhn, Crystal Lahr, Emily Mansicka, Chelsey Maus, Weston Vetsch, Amber Besonen, Kelsey Vigoren, Samantha Stuve, Mitchel Hurrle, Brooke Merten, Kelsey Theisen, Amanda Gageby, Camen Markgraf; Subsection Superior/ State Section Superior-Maria Donnay, Mitchel Hurrle, Mellisa Huhn, Kelsey Vigoren, Emily Mansicka, Crystal Lahr. The band had a great performance at their latest concert. The winter activities season is over, both wrestling and speech had great records. Jon Clark reported on the March Students of the Month. They are: Mackenzie Mills, Tim Wittrock, Zack Streit, Katie Spaulding, Skyler Garding, Taylor Schreiner, Joey VonWahlde. Kindergarten Round-Up has taken place, with 46 students in attendance. On February 24, grades 4-6 performed "Music through the Decades." The elementary spring fundraiser is complete; about $9000 was raised and will be used for technology. Students in the sixth grade went on fieldtrips to explore different career options. Preparations are starting to happen for testing coming up in April. Erik Widvey reported that the band is leaving on March 20 for their trip to Chicago. All students have finished the registration process for next year. Erik Widvey and Jay Klein will be meeting with sixth-grade students from Holy Cross who may attend Kimball next year. MCA testing and the end of the quarter are both approaching. Graduation is scheduled for May 28. Superintendent Tritabaugh shared tax capacity rate sheets with the Board. He recently attended a negotiations seminar and the national conference. Upcoming meetings include: 4/2-SEE Regional Meeting; 4/17-SEE Meeting; 4/15-Benton Stearns; 4/15-Board Meeting. Superintendent Tritabaugh will be out of the district from April 1 through April 5. Committee reports included Benton Stearns-Laabs, SEE-Dockery, Health and Safety-Widvey, Student-Board-Zipoy, Facilities Task Force-Zipoy, Athletic-Stenger, Budget-Tritabaugh. Superintendent Tritabaugh presented the 2009-2010 school calendar to the Board from the Meet and Confer Committee. After review, motion by Peglow, seconded by Dockery to approve the calendar as presented with the understanding that changes can be made if the need arises. MC There were no communications. Motion by Stenger, seconded by Peglow to approve payment of the listed bills in the amount of $801,881.80 of which $629,390.66 was payment on a bond. MC Motion by Laabs, seconded by Dockery to approve the consent agenda. MC The consent agenda included: Approve minutes of February 11, 2009, Regular Board Meeting. Approve request for maternity leave requested by Darcy Krippner beginning on or about May 25. The treasurer's report for February was reviewed and discussed. Motion by Peglow, seconded by Zipoy to accept resignation received from Shawn Meyer as Ag instructor beginning 2009-2010. The Board thanked Meyer for his years of service to the district. MC After discussion regarding junior high participation, motion by Laabs, to approve spring coaches: Joe Krippner-Assistant Baseball, Adam Beyer-eighth-grade Baseball. Also to approve Ramsey Simmons-seventh-grade Baseball contingent upon participation at the junior high level. Motion was seconded by Dockery. MC Following explanation from Superintendent Tritabaugh, motion by Dockery, seconded by Peglow to approve Federal Advocacy Resolution. MC Motion by Stenger, seconded by Zipoy to approve the following revised policies as presented: BBE-Conflict of Interest-School Board Members; BDDG-Minutes; BDDH-Public Participation; DFA-Investments; DN-School Properties Disposal Procedure; JNA-Student Fees. MC Member Peglow attended the NHS Induction. The ceremony went well and new inductees were well spoken. Inductees included: Kelsey Vigoren, Alex Mies, Sarah Messer, and Abby Zoller.
