6th-grade boys complete great season

The sixth-grade boys basketball team traveled to Paynseville March 7, to wrap up their Highway 55 League schedule. The boys came into the game with great determination to reveal themselves from a 20-point loss to the Bulldogs a week earlier. The game started off as the game prior with Paynseville, jumping out to an early lead. It was difficult for the young Cubs to compete against the Bulldogs height, but they continued to play hard and not give up. They were only down by 10 points with two minutes left in the game. Now it was time for Kimball Basketball. Quickness and great ball-handling, combined with a perfectly executed 2-2-1 full court press, enabled the Cubs to tie the game, putting them into their first overtime of the day. Both teams exchanged baskets, but a second overtime was needed to decide the winners. A persistent full-court press, with some key shots from the line, allowed the Cubs to come out on top. It was a perfect way to end a great season for this outstanding group of boys. I would like to thank all the parents and volunteers, especially the Kimball Sports Booster Club, Kimball Community Ed., and coaches Jay Klein and Jeremy Kuechle, of the boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams, for their cooperation and time. Incredible parent involvement and support with these young athletes has been, and continues to be, a cornerstone of our programs, and we do appreciate their efforts. I can speak for all coaches involved in all elementary sports programs by saying that we truly enjoy teaching and coaching these great Kimball student athletes who will become the pride of our varsity teams.
