The Cubs knew traveling to Howard Lake to take on the talented Lakers would be a very challenging contest, as the Cubs came in as a seven-seed, knowing they would have to play flawlessly to knock off the number two-seeded Lakers. Kimball controlled the ball early, and was able to control the ball and the clock, but could not finish off their possessions with scores, as Howard Lake eventually jumped out to a 9-0 lead. By halftime, Howard Lake had built its lead to 29-9, and although Kimball played very determined basketball, they just didn't have the answers for the high-powered Lakers scorers. Kimball's season ended with a 59-26 final score despite their team effort. Sophomore Shannon Donnay played well in limited action, leading the team in scoring with 7 points, senior Emily Straley finished with 5 points and six rebounds, sophomore Megan Garding also scored 5 points, despite an ankle injury keeping her out of the second half. Freshman Rachael Arnold scored 2 points, senior Sarah Powell scored 2 points, sophomore Kayla Myers had 2 points, junior Sarah Messer had 2 points, and sophomore Klarissa Eisenbraun was one for two from the free throw line, to round out the scoring. Junior Kelsey Vigoren and freshman Brooke Merten led the defense with three steals each. Kimball finishes its season with a 6-19 record, which is the teams most wins since the 2003-2004 season. The junior varsity finished its season with a 16-8 record, while the C-squad ended with a 9-7 record. The improvement at all levels is a testament to the players working hard all season, willingness to learn and improve every day at practice, and the self motivation that it takes to make themselves better individual and team players. With continued off-season commitments, the Lady Cubs will continue to show improvement into next season and beyond, as they strive to show their school and fans what Kimball Pride means to their team, while continuing to establish a renewed winning tradition. The Lady Cubs would like to thank all of their fans for their support throughout the season, also thanking the seniors, Paige Peglow, Sarah Powell, and Emily Straley, for their dedication this season, past seasons, and wishing them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.
