The sixth-grade boys' basketball team continues to do well and show great improvements in tournament play. The Kimball Sports Boosters hosted their annual tourney this past weekend. The young Cubs handled themselves well with their first tourney of the weekend, (Saturday, Feb. 28) coming up with a strong second place. They beat Annandale, Holdingford, and Litchfield, but lost to Paynseville in a nail-biter by only one point in the morning-pool play. This rated them second in the tournament for the afternoon. They handled Litchfield quite easily again, but came up short to a tough and tall Paynseville team in the finals. Their second tournament was Sunday, March 1, in Annandale. The young Cubs played awesome defense and moved the ball well to easily handle Maple Lake and Rockford teams. Unfortunately, they lost to Annandale in the finals, a team they beat at Kimball. Many easy shots just didn't fall, leaving the Cubs with a tough second place by only 4 points. They should be quite proud of their showing this past weekend. They continue to improve as a team and work quite well together. A huge thanks goes to parents and Sports Booster Club members for their help in the Kimball tourney and to players' parents who continue to give great support to the sixth-grade athletic programs. The sixth-grade boys play their final 55-league games next Saturday at Paynesville. One last chance to beat the Bulldogs. The young Cubs and the upcoming future of great Kimball basketball include: Joe VonWahlde, Will Spaulding, Brady Faber, Brandon Schiefelbein, Ty Morrison, Mike Vossen, Tanner Schriefels, Jarrod Merchant, and Isaiah Elhinger. Coaches Spaulding, Hilbert and Merchant thank you!
