As of today, 58 Minnesota school districts and schools have reported to the Minnesota Department of Education that they have identified and isolated a total of 252.31 cases of recalled peanuts from the federal commodity program. Those peanuts have been destroyed or are in the process of being destroyed. Each individual case weighs a total of 24 pounds. Background · Last month, the Food and Drug Administration announced the expansion of the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) recall. The recall was expanded to peanut products manufactured from January 1, 2007, forward. The plant is currently closed. · The USDA announced one truckload of roasted peanuts from Peanut Corporation of America was delivered for some Minnesota schools on January 15, 2007. MDE immediately instructed impacted schools to pull that product from their shelves.. · Earlier this month, the USDA provided instructions on how schools should document and dispose of the product that has been recalled.
