President Obama recently signed into law the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (i.e. Economic Stimulus bill) that includes money for transportation projects. The transportation money gets distributed to states through their Department of Transportation (i.e. Mn/DOT) and then ultimately to local governments. The St. Cloud Metropolitan Area was recently notified that $2.7 million of that money was allocated for the extension of 28th Avenue in Waite Park from Highway 23 to County Road 137 (see attached draft list). In order for Waite Park to be able to use the money, the APO has to formally amend the St. Cloud Metropolitan Area 2009-2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) at a public meeting. As the media venues for the St. Cloud metropolitan and surrounding areas, I'm hoping that you'll help us deliver our message that we are having a public meeting on Thursday, February 26 at 7:30p.m. at Waite Park City Hall to amend this project into the TIP. The list of Mn/DOT or transit stimulus projects for the St. Cloud area have not been released but these projects will also be presented and amended into the TIP.
