Kimball Area District Spelling Bee took place Monday, Feb. 2 in the high school cafetorium. Twenty students participated ranging from grades five to eight. Jonathan Bisila (grade 8) and Joey VonWahlde (grade 6) were in the final two when Jonathan spelled-out the winning word "Fletcherism". Fletcherism (n.) "is the practice of eating in small amounts and only when hungry and of chewing one's food thoroughly." Pronouncing was Mr. Widvey and judging was Mr. Clark, Mrs. Notch, Mrs. Pelzer, and Mrs. Winter. Jonathan advances to the Regional Spelling Bee which takes place Monday, March 2, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., at St. John's University. Tuesday, March 3 is the designated snow day for the regional event. Tune-in to WJON (1240) or KBEK (95.5) by 7 a.m. for postponements due to weather.
