Kimball 3 - Maple Lake 1 Kimball Varsity volleyball had much to celebrate after their homecoming win against the Maple Lake Irish
Thursday, Sept. 11. The Cubs were determined to play hard and determined to take a match victory from this conference foe. Maple Lake's strong volleyball program has left Kimball short of victory for the last five years, but the Lady Cubs did not fall short this time. Kimball persevered through their first game, winning a close one 28-26. Kimball started to find their rhythm and momentum in game two, winning 25-20. Game three was a loss (11-25) when Maple Lake served tough, forcing several serve receive errors out of Kimball. The Lady Cubs decided it was their night, finding their rhythm and intensity and finished the fourth game 25-22. Statistical highlights include Rachel Lahr with five kills, Tess-lynn Callander with three kills and eight digs, Kelly Mackereth with two ace serves, four solo blocks and four block assists, and Molly Hurrle with 60 attempts and 17 assists. The Kimball Cubs are 1-1 in the conference and 3-2 overall. The next conference match is at Holdingford Thursday, Sept. 18, following the junior varsity match starting at 6 p.m. The Kimball junior varsity volleyball team lost to Maple Lake 2-0 on Homecoming Thursday, Sept. 11. In game one, the Cubs took a bit too long to overcome their gametime jitters, but they were able to eventually find a rhythm, making the 25-21 loss respectable. Game two (11-25) was a struggle from the beginning as a couple of tough servers from Maple Lake created a big score margin, which was too difficult for the Cubs to come back. The Cubs did play a third game and seemed to feel a bit more comfortable on the floor, losing a close one 14-16.
