Homecoming C-squad VB match

Kimball's C-team began their homecoming match against the Maple Lake Irish by staying with the Irish most of the game. The biggest lead the Irish had was at 22-17 and the Cubs were unable to recover and lost 25-20. In game two, the young Cubs got behind early and were down 11-3 and just never recovered. The Irish had two players who served six and seven serves consecutively, while the Cubs struggled at the baseline and lost 25-13. Game three started out slow as well and the Cubs got behind 7-1, but came back to make the score 10-9, but again were unable to "push" the game to the end for a win, losing 15-13. Kimball played a good game offensively and showed improvement defensively. We attacked more than in our previous matches and our passing on serve receive was better, however, our serving game was our biggest hurdle, as we served only 70 percent as a team. Servers who demonstrated success were Melody Rose at 4/4 and 100 percent; Steph Konz at 3/3 for 100 percent and Olivia Fischer at 6/7 for 85 percent. As a team, we also set the ball 21 times and had 19 hits for the night. Next week we are away both Monday and Thursday at Swanville and Holdingford, respectively, and have a tournament at Maple Lake on Saturday, Sept. 20. Go Cubs. Kim Pelzer, coach
