After a decisive victory Thursday, Oct. 23, against Royalton, the Cubs faced the Braham Bombers at Braham High School Friday, Oct. 24. Despite the two-hour bus ride, the Cubs came out ready to play. Kimball took the early lead in game one; however, the Bombers challenged the young Cubs with strong serves and a tough cross-court attack. The Bombers took the lead late in the game, winning 25-21. In game two, the Cubs continued to play with the Bombers. The lead changed hands many times, but the Bombers took the second game, 25-23. Unforced errors were the downfall of the Cubs. The unforced errors continued in game three. The Bombers held the momentum throughout game three. The Cubs lost their final game of the season, 21-25. Highlights for the match include 25 set assists, two ace serves, and four digs for Molly Hurrle; nine kills, four ace serves, one solo block, and nine digs for Tesslyn Callander; 12 digs for Kelsi Woods; seven kills and four digs for Rachel Lahr. The varsity team finished the season at 14-9. They were tied for fourth in the Central Minnesota Conference. The team won both the Becker Invitational Tournament of Roses and the Kimball Invitational Tournament. Team members include senior Bridget Gohmann, juniors Kelsi Woods, Maranda Theisen, Rachel Lahr, Chelsey Orth, Reana Orbeck, Nicole Klein, Molly Hurrle, Kelly Mackereth, Tesslyn Callander, and Sarah Messer, and sophomore Shannon Donnay. Abby Zoller served as team manager for the 2008 season. Special thanks to the volleyball fans for their support this season. They are an impressive group of high-spirited individuals with great sportsmanship. They represented the Cub spirit with pride. The team and coaches appreciated their constant support and enthusiastic cheering. The volleyball team will hold their team banquet Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. Awards and other recognition will follow a potluck for players and their families.
