The Kimball Cubs varsity volleyball team wrapped up their regular season play on Monday, Oct. 20, with a 3-0 match win against Upsala. Kimball started out slow and continued to battle for the lead in game one. The Cubs had some unforced errors and crucial missed serves that kept Upsala in the game. However, the Cubs didn't give up until they finished 26-24. Kimball worked out some of their jitters in game two, creating a bigger win margin of 25-20. To Upsula's credit, their scrappy play and convincing middle hitter made it difficult for the Cubs to dominate. Game three ended with the same results as game two, but in the end, the Cubs were victorious. Match highlights included Kelsi Woods with 19 digs, Molly Hurrle with 36 set assists, Rachel Lahr with 11 kills, and Kelly Mackereth with nine kills. The Cubs finished the regular season with a 13-8 record. The Kimball Cubs met Royalton Thursday, Oct. 23, in the first round of post-season volleyball play. Kimball dominated the match 3-0 by moving the ball around well and serving aggressively. Kimball took game one 25-11 quickly. The Cubs' were determined to take the match in three games and leave little to no room for error. Game two and three followed in the same manner. Scores for game two and three were 25-14. Match highlights included Nicole Klein's three ace serves and 12 points; Tesslynn Callander's 12 points, eight kills, and 10 digs; Molly Hurrle's 25 set assists; Rachel Lahr's 10 kills; Kelly Mackereth's seven kills; and Shannon Donnay's seven kills.
