St. Cloud State University will join hands with the St. Cloud community to pay tribute to American veterans with a special ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 11. "American Spirit," free and open to all, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, Stewart Hall, on campus. The Greater St. Cloud Honor Band, which comprises outstanding high school students from St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech, Sartell and Sauk Rapids-Rice, will join forces with the nationally-acclaimed St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble to perform a variety of patriotic selections. Dr. Bruce Pearson '64 alumnus, internationally known composer, clinician, conductor and author will guest conduct the Honor Band. Special recognition will be given to veterans of the Iraq War, including many of the 500 veterans who are current St. Cloud State students. "Profiles of Courage," three presentations chronicling local heroes' experiences during a number of armed conflicts, will be presented by students as tokens of gratitude to all veterans serving in the Armed Forces. St. Cloud State President Earl H. Potter III will host the collaborative civic event, St. Cloud Mayor David Kleis is master of ceremonies, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide the Color Guard. The concert is free. Donations will be accepted at the door to support future tributes to veterans and Honor Band efforts. For more information, contact the St. Cloud State Department of Music, (320) 308-3223.
