The Kimball Cubs junior varsity volleyball team went three and two during their busiest week of the season. Con?dence in themselves and quality serving led to major wins at the Kimball Invitational Tournament. On Tuesday, Oct. 7th, the Cubs traveled to ACGC for a non-conference match. The Cubs came out slow in game one and never really established a rhythm. The Cubs lost 25-21. In game two, the Cubs started quickly, but were unable to maintain their energy. Missed serves were critical in the loss. Final score of game two was 25-15, in favor of ACGC. On Thursday, October 9th, the Cubs faced a quality BBE team. The height of the Jaguars could have been an intimidating factor, but the Cubs went right at the big blocks. Quality passing and serving were key, but the Cubs were unable to pull off a win. Scores were 22-25 and 18-25. One BBE fan commented that the Cubs gave the Jaguars' junior varsity the most competition of their entire season. The Cubs wrapped up their week with the Kimball Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 11. The junior varsity opened with a win against Holdingford, 25-17, 12-25, 15-11. In their second match of the day, the Cubs started strong, faltered again in game two, and took game three against the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles. Scores were 25-19, 14-25, 15-13. The most exciting match of the day was the Cubs' ?nal event against Royalton. Again, the Cubs started strong in game one, winning 25-19. In game two, the Cubs showed some hesitation in their passing and hitting. Royalton won, 20-25. The Cubs struggled to ?nd their rhythm in the opening of game three and Royalton jumped out to a 14-5 lead in a game played to 15. Outside hitter Bridget Gohmann came up to serve for the Cubs. Gohmann rattled off eight straight serves to bring the score to 14-14. The Cubs and Royals battled back and forth. Strong net play and con?dence in their attacks gave the Cubs the victory in the match with a 19-17 win. The junior varsity is now seven and six overall with two matches left in the season. The Cubs play at Rockford on Tuesday, Oct. 14th, and home versus Upsala on Monday, Oct. 20th.
