The Crow River Area Youth Orchestra (CRAYO) will be performing its 2008 spring concert Sunday, April 20, at 4 p.m. in the Dassel/Cokato Performing Arts Auditorium on Highway 12 between Dassel and Cokato. Selections being performed by the symphony orchestra include Egmont Overture by Beethoven, Overture to Candide by Bernstein, selections from the musical Chicago arranged by Lopez, Bacchanale by Saint-Saens, Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001: A Space Odessy) by Strauss and two selections from Star Wars by Williams. The concert will also feature CRAYO's concerto contest winner Paul Cravens of Hutchinson, who will be performing a trumpert concerto by Hummel. The symphony orchestra is directed by Lisa Zeller of Willmar. Another ensemble will also be performing - the Chamber Ensemble - which is a string only group, directed by Marie Nelson of Litchfield. The CRAYO symphonic orchestra and ensembles are made up of more than 50 musicians from around the Hutchinson/Crow River area. Tickets will be available at the door; $7 for adults and $3 for students age 18 and younger. The CRAYO program is made possible in part by a grant from Southwest MN Arts and Humanities Council (SMAHC) with funds appropriated by the state legislature, agency of United Way of Hutchinson, supplemental funds applied for with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Chapter 31309.
