Ag awards Travis Petty, son of Dean and Carol Petty of Kimball, was among agriculture students were honored at the PAS (Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization) Awards Banquet Tuesday, April 1, at Ridgewater College-Willmar Campus. Students received awards for their participation in state and national PAS contests. The state PAS contests were held in St. Cloud in February and the national contests were held in Dallas, Tex., in March. Petty received the following award(s) for state competition: second place Soils Specialist Team and third place Soils Specialist Individual. Interior design Caitlin Thurber, daughter of Don and Bonnie Thurber of Kimball, has been accepted into the Interior Design program at Alexandria Technical College for fall 2008. Ag scholarship Christopher Sheehan of Kimball is the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council (MAELC). Sheehan is currently studying Agricultural, Food & Environmental Education at the University of Minnesota-St. Paul. U of M acceptance Scott A. Stenger of Watkins and a graduate of Kimball Area High School, has been accepted and has chosen to attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Stenger, son of Doug and Linda Stenger, will study Wildife Management. Pay It Forward Tour Kayla Hinkemeyer of Kimball participated in the 2008 Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF) Pay It Forward Tour over spring break. Hinkemeyer, a junior majoring in elementary education, is a member of STLF. The Pay It Forward Tour is a nine-day trip across the country, where students team up with different community organizations in each of the cities they visit, facing a different social challenge they have to tackle.
