Lots of sunshine Easter

Greater Minnesota had a wonderful Easter Weekend. Temperatures were in the 50s and 60s for highs with lots of sunshine on Sunday. The only thing was that it was quite windy and that made it difficult for those who wanted to bike ride or to play a round of golf. Even high profile vehicles had a tough time of things staying on the road on Sunday because of the winds.

Much colder air settled-in by Monday. Highs were anywhere from five to 10 degrees below average on Monday. That trend stayed with us through Wednesday. In fact, we had a freeze warning in effect for most of the state as tempertures Tuesday morning fell into the teens and twenties. Northwest winds gusting to 30 mph made it feel even colder.

There was also a red flag warning for parts of Minnesota on Monday because of the strong winds and dry conditions. The concern for wildfires breaking out were mainly across southern and western Minnesota, but it is dry all across the state.

Some relief is in sight for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the possibility of rain. The best chance for showers at this stage is on Thursday where some spots could pick up to a half inch of rain. More rain is possible for Friday night and again over the weekend.

Temperatures will return to above normal ranges for later in the week and into the weekend. You may need to keep the umbrella handy for the start of the weekend.

Have a great rest of the week!

Weather history: In 1929, heavy rain hit parts of the state. For example, around the Marshall area, over five inches of rain fell in just 24 hours!

Weather fact: Red Flag Warning-Is a warning issued by the National Weather Service when conditions are "conducive to the formation of wildfires." Dry conditions combined with high winds and low humidity are the ingredients of weather conducive to producing large wildfires.
