Earth Weekend at Lake Maria S.P.

Lake Maria State Park will observe Earth Weekend with a bird identification program on Saturday, April 21, beginning at

10 a.m. in the park's nature center.

Featured speaker will be Clay Christensen, a highly experienced birdwatcher who has led many field trips for the St. Paul Audubon Society and other organizations. In addition, he conducts bird surveys, species identifications and bird counts. He has participated in the International Crane Count, the Christmas Bird Count and the Breeding Bird Atlas survey. In addition, he has conducted breeding-bird surveys in Wright and Meeker counties.

A brief hike, limited to 25 persons, will follow the program. Pre-registration for the hike is required by calling the park at (763)

878-2325. Participants should bring binoculars. Since the hike is not appropriate for very young children, discuss age considerations when contacting the park.

There is no charge for this program, although there is $5 vehicle entry feeÊfor those without an annual permit.Lake Maria State Park is located approximately seven miles northwest of Monticello, five miles north of Maple Lake and 10 miles northeast of Annandale on Wright County Highway 111.
