Weather column: Wow, where did the month of March go? Now that we are into the month of April, I wanted to look back to see how the month of March compared to other years. In St. Cloud, where the records go back further than most other locations in Greater Minnesota, the average monthly temperature was 43.9 degrees. This was 14.5 degrees above normal. The average high for the city was 54.4 degrees. The average low, meanwhile, was 33.4 degrees.

How about precipitation for the month? St. Cloud received 1.15 inches of precipitation for the month. That was nearly.50" precipitation below normal.

The warmest day was on Monday, March 19, when it hit 78 degrees. The coldest day during the month was when it hit 2 below zero on Sunday, March 4.

The 30-day outlook for the month of April calls for above-normal temperatures and equal chances for precipitation. This basically means that for precipitation there is no clear indication so we could have either above or below normal precipitation. Time will certainly tell.

Have a great upcoming weekend!

Weather history: In 1928 severe thunderstorms pushed across portions of central and east central Minnesota. Some 100,000 dollars in damage was done at Anoka.

Weather fact: Fetch Is an area of the water surface over which waves are generated by a wind having a constant direction and speed. Also, it is the name given to the length of the fetch area, measured in the direction of the wind from which the seas are generated. One of the ingredients for lake effect snow is the fetch of the water over which cold air can gain moisture.
