Kimball wrestler competed in Iowa

David Joseph earns preseason "High School All-American" status

More than 1,500 wrestlers competed in the USA Preseason Wrestling Nationals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Saturday, Oct. 30. This is a one-day tournament that is quickly growing into one of the toughest tournaments in the country.

Eleven competitors from the Kimball area went down with hopes of competing with the very best wrestlers in the country. There were many state and national champions in this event, a tremendous challenge for an amateur athlete, but not necessarily the best pick for a confidence booster.

There were only seven "All American" place winners from Minnesota, so it was quite an accomplishment for David to win this honor.

David is a senior wrestler this year for Kimball Area High School. He competed at 189 pounds, and ended up placing sixth. He went 4-1 in his first five matches, guaranteeing him at least a sixth-place finish. David did lose the next two matches, but had one of the best matches of the day, narrowly losing to this year's Folk Style National Champ Blaze Cabell from Iowa, with a score of 8-5 after David had a questionable takedown reversed which would have given him a 6-5 win.

David wrestled athletes from Iowa (twice), Florida, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois and Texas.
