Final week for varsity volleyball

It was a busy week for the girls' varsity volleyball team. The Cubs finished their regular season with a win against Litchfield Monday, Oct. 25. The match went the full five sets. Set scores were 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, 15-25, and 15-8. Match highlights included Steph Konz with nine kills, Breane Meierhofer with eight kills, Heidi Lochen with 17 digs, and Shannon Donnay with four total blocks. The Cubs finished the regular season 9 and 13.

Post-season play proved bittersweet. The Cubs, the fifth seed, went to fourth seed Eden Valley-Watkins Thursday, Oct. 28. The Cubs and the Eagles battled for five sets, each team's outcome determined by their aggressive play and high energy. Set wins went back and forth. The Cubs took the first set 25-23. The following set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 17-25, and 15-12. Match highlights included Rachel Arnold with 58 set assists. Breane Meierhofer with 16 kills, Steph Konz with 11 kills, and Heidi Lochen with 16 digs. The win against the Eagles was exciting and led them to their next opponent B-B-E who was the first seed.

On Friday night, Oct. 29, the Cubs went to Brooten to face top seed B-B-E. The Cubs struggled against an aggressive, high energy, composed Jaguar team. Both B-B-E's

outside and middle hitter took command of the court with strategic swinging. The Cubs struggled to play consistent defense against them. The Cubs lost the first two sets 17-25, 13-25. The Cubs' luck changed in set three. B-B-E had made some substitutional changes, and the Cubs started to pick up on some of those balls in defense, even creating some offense for themselves. The Cubs won the third set 25-22. The final set proved challenging again. The Cubs couldn't catch a break with B-B-E's aggressive serving. The Cubs used their timeouts early and made a couple of substitutions to try to take away the momentum from B-B-E, but they couldn't. B-B-E's aggressive serving and hitting led them to a 25-6 victory over the Cubs. Match highlights included Breane Meierhofer with nine kills and Rachel Arnold with 10 digs.
