Hello from Early Childhood
This fall, we have been working hard to provide some educational and fun things for families who have preschoolers. We do have parent-child classes for all ages, preschool for ages 3 to 5, and some special events that are coming up soon.
Infant Massage: Once again we are hosting Janice Smith from Holiday Beach Massage (398-2525) to teach our parents to massage their little one. Parents report many positive things after taking this class. Some children seem to sleep better and longer, some are able to manage gas and stomach discomfort better, and all say that it is just nice to be touching and bringing a calming peace to their child. Our class will take place in Watkins Elementary School on Nov. 11, (Thursday) from 6-7 p.m. Cost for this class is $10. Call if you would like to take part.
Toddler Gym Time: While the babies are enjoying their massage, the older siblings can play in the gym with the other parent or a grandparent. We will have fun stations in the gym, followed by a cool down snack. When we have two things going on in the same place and at the same time, why not bring the whole family?
Attachment and Brain Development Of Small Children: Keeping with the theme of babies and small children, Jane Ellison is coming to speak to our area Child Care Professionals and any parents who are interested. Jane is completing her licensure for therapy with children who have had disruptions early in life that may be cause for concern. Her topic centers on young children's brain development and attachment to caretakers. All children do have needs in the first months to feel safe and cared for, and Jane will bring the newest information about this interesting topic. Cost for this class is $10 also, which includes a snack and the workshop. Time and place: Monday Nov. 29, 6-8:30 p.m. in Kimball Elementary School.
Our Play and Learn School students and parents are going on a field trip to St. John's to see a live performance of "Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" on Jan. 13, at noon. We will be taking a bus from KES so students who don't regularly get to ride are able to experience that too. We will sell tickets to students in the 4-and 5-year-old PLS classes (with their parents). If we do have extra tickets, we will sell them through lottery the Monday after Thanksgiving. If you would like to be in the lottery for extra tickets, simply call the school and put your name on the list. Cost for tickets is $12/child or $15/adult. This includes the bus and the play.
Our annual "Make It, Take It" is on Dec. 6, (Kimball) and Dec. 7, (Watkins) 6:30-8 p.m. We are hunting in the holiday archives to find sparkly and festive items to create with your child. Whole families can come to this event to kick off the holiday season. No registration is necessary, just come when you can, make things, and have a snack. Then take the creations with you to decorate your space for the holiday.
We wish you and your family memory-building fun this fall and into the winter.
