Eden Valley-Watkins wins Kimball Invitational Volleyball Tournament
Saturday, Oct. 9, the Kimball Cubs varsity volleyball team went 1-2 for the day in a round robin tournament with Holdingford, Eden Valley-Watkins, and Royalton. Coming out with tons of energy and maintaining that high energy throughout the tournament, Eden Valley-Watkins went 3-0 in the tournament to win it.
The Cubs played Holdingford first. Kimball started strong, winning the first set 25-21 but struggled to maintain their energy and lost the second set 23-25. The tie-breaker went to Holdingford 15-10.
Next, the Cubs met Eden Valley-Watkins. The Eagles were looking for revenge after the Cubs win over them last Thursday night. The Cubs matched the Eagles' energy with aggressive serving and aggressive net play winning the first set 25-18. The Cubs started off strong with a 9-2 lead at one point in the second set, but unforced errors and frustration set in. The Eagles came back and won 25-18. Keeping the momentum and energy, the Eagles took the tie-breaker with a score of 15-10.
Finally, the Cubs played Royalton. Kimball played Royalton earlier in the season and lost to them, but the Cubs avenged their loss with total confidence and aggressive play. Aggressive serving and swinging earned the Cubs a 2-0 win against the Royals. Set scores were 29-27 and 25-13.
Tournament highlights included Rachel Arnold with 50 set assists, 16 digs, and six ace serves. Heidi Lochen with 25 digs, Steph Konz with 25 kills, and Breane Meierhofer with 14 kills. The Cubs are away this week on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Lester Prairie and Thursday, Oct 14, at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted.
