Dozens of veterans and servicemembers are expected to attend a small business seminar at Minnesota State University Moorhead, from 9 a.m.Ð12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Moorhead. The seminar is presented by Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, the Minnesota National Guard, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the Minnesota Department of Economic and Employment Development, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
This is the second of six scheduled seminars across the state to support veterans and servicemembers in improving or starting their own business.
They will hear and learn from experts in the field to include experienced veteran business owners, be exposed to entrepreneurial programs and resources, and have the opportunity to network with fellow entrepreneurs. In addition, they will have a chance to be linked to an experienced mentor to help them start a small business.
The seminar comes at a time when unemployment rates are high across the nation and servicemembers returning from deployment are seeking entrepreneurial opportunities. Attendees will leave the seminar with a thorough understanding of the funding available to start a business, the agencies handling the funding, the process for seeking funding and the
educational programs available to help in developing a marketable business plan.
Spots are still open for veterans and servicemembers to attend the event. Veterans can register online at www.BeyondTheYellowRibbon.org.
Additional seminars are scheduled through October and November:
Oct. 20, Lake Superior College, Duluth.
Oct. 27, Rochester Community Technical College, Rochester.
Nov. 3, St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud.
Nov. 10, Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall.
