National 4-H Week Oct. 3-9

Oct. 4-9 is National 4-H Week, and Meeker County is celebrating by doing a number of things. First of all, watch for window displays promoting 4-H that have been created by local 4-H clubs throughout the county. During this week, local 4-H youth will connect with the community by visiting all third-grade classes at the following schools: Dassel Elementary, Eden Valley Elementary, Kimball Elementary, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City North Elementary (Atwater), Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City South Elementary (Cosmos), and St. Phillip's School (Litchfield). While visiting the third-graders throughout Meeker County, older 4-H'ers will hand out stickers, coloring sheets, and 4-H brochures. Meeker County 4-H looks forward to visiting with all of you!

Meeker County 4-H Ambassadors will also be featured on newsmaker on KLFD radio, AM 1410, at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4th. Please tune in.

4-H is Minnesota's only youth-development program directly connected to the technological advances and latest research of the University of Minnesota. 4-H members learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on projects in science, foods and nutrition, healthy living, citizenship, and many others. Topics are as varied as rocketry, arts and crafts, public speaking, photography, nutrition, and community service.

4-H helps our community's young people reach their full potential. Recent studies show youth who participate in 4-H do better in school, are more motivated to help others, feel safe to try new things, achieve a sense of self-esteem, and develop lasting friendships.

In Meeker County, more than 400 4-H members and 135 volunteers are involved in 4-H. 4-H is open to anyone grades K-college freshman. 4-H is one of the largest youth development organizations in America with more than 6.5 million young people ages 5-19, 538,000 volunteers, 3,500 staff and 60 million alumni.
