A savings account has been set up at the Farmers State Bank of Watkins for anyone wishing to contribute in assisting with Sandra Simmons' medical bills, and Bud's Bar is hosting a bike run and raffle July 19 with proceeds going to the Simmons' family. Sandra Simmons was diagnosed with carcanoid cancer in 1998 - a rare type of liver cancer. Sandra, wife of Allan Simmons and mother of Aaron, Dacia and Brittney Simmons, has gone through enabilization, heart valve replacement, small intestine removal and undergoes monthly chemo shots. She recently found out she has bone cancer and will be going to the "Clinical Research Clinic" at the Mayo Clinic to start a new research drug in July. The bike run is being organized by Rick Ertl, Judy Pauls and Nora Rohrbeck. Registration begins at noon July 19, with the run starting at 1 p.m. Route: Starts at Bud's Bar to Doochie's in St. Martin to Pearl Lake Lodge in Marty to S.O.B.'s in Kimball and ends up back at Bud's Bar in Watkins. Raffle tickets are available for: hog, a quarter beef and many more miscellaneous prizes. The drawing will be held at 9 p.m. July 19.
