Since 1985 diversiCOM Melrose Telephone Company has invested in central Minnesota youth through the L.H. Arvig Memorial Scholarship program. Samantha Stewart-James is the $1,000 winner chosen at Kimball Area High School. She will be attending Minnesota State Moorhead pursuing a degree in chemistry. Her parents are Roger and Candy Stewart-James. Kevin Welle is the Melrose Area High School winner. He is the son of Dave and Kathy Welle and will receive $1,000. He plans to attend St. John's University. His planned course of study is math and economics.
Eden Valley-Watkins High School winner of $1,000 is Rheanne Zimmerman. She plans to further her education at the University of Minnesota studying biology, German and pre-med. She is the daughter of Randy and Molly Zimmerman. Close to 120 high school seniors have been recipients of these scholarships. Students must meet certain criteria in the area of academics and future career plans.
