Joanne Schramel of Eden Valley died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. She was 64. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley with Father Virgil Braun officiating. Joanne M. Schramel was born Nov. 22, 1943, in Watkins to Greg and Loretta (Wortz) Ertl. She graduated in 1961 from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, and later received her dental assistant degree. She married Martin Schramel in June 1954 in Watkins. Joanne loved to shop, bake, watch her flowers grow, and she enjoyed a trip to play the slot machines. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma. She endured much pain and suffering during the last year of her life, and she lost her courageous fight May 25. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Kerry Kerstein; father- and mother-in-law Marcus and Louise Schramel; brothers-in-law Fran Schramel and Gene Theis. She is survived by her husband Martin of Eden Valley; children Paul Schramel of St. Cloud, Jodi Schramel of Shakopee, Pam (and Tom) Kurtz of Waconia, and Becky Schramel of Eden Valley; grandchildren Katherine, Kylie and Ryan Kurtz; sisters Pat (and Larry) Hartkopf of Becker, Carol (and Jim) Lennox of Kimball; sisters-in-law MaryLou Theis and Cyndi Bemboom of Mayhew Lake; and brother-in-law Mark (and Dawn) Schramel of Eden Valley. Casketbearers will be Chuck Hartkopf, Todd Hartkopf, Jesse Jost, Brett LaRose, David Bemboom, and Gus Bemboom. Music will be by Mark Ertl. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. The family would like to thank all of the staff on the fourth-floor progressive unit at the St. Coud Hospital for the loving care given to Joanne during her long stays.
