Leroy Lofgren of South Haven died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Dassel Lakeside Community Home. He was 82. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven, with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial was in the Fair Haven Cemetery. Friends called from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball, and one hour prior to services at the Church. There was a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Leroy William Lofgren was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Minneapolis to William and Emma (Norman) Lofgren. On May 26, 1940, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethel Lutheran Church. He was a 1943 graduate of Minneapolis North High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged Nov. 19, 1951. He married Luella Blumke Kell Aug. 10, 1967, at Golden Valley Lutheran Church. He was an over-the-road trucker working for various trucking companies including United Buckingham and Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1987. He was a former member of Westfhal American Legion of Robbinsdale and the Fair Haven Lions Club. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Kimball American Legion, and Teamsters Union Local 544. Leroy is survived by his wife Luella of South Haven; he was divorced from his first wife Joyce in 1964 and is survived by three children from that union, Alaine Jablonski, Amburnette Smith and Dana Lofgren; sister Oriet Sowl; niece Barbara Lemond; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Pallbearers were Lucas, Alex, Randy, Jeff, Scott and Maahs Lofgren, and Donald Weckwerth. Ruth Fry was the organist. Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church.
