The Minnesota Lyme Action Support Group will host the second annual 5K (3.1 miles) Lyme Walk/Run on Saturday, May 17, on the Sunrise Prairie Trail next to Hwy. 61, north of County Road 22, in Wyoming, Minn. Together with family, friends and supporters the Minnesota Lyme Action Support Group hopes to raise awareness of Lyme disease as well as funds for research and education. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk/run at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children (13 and under) if signed up by April 26. After April 26, it's $20 and $15, respectively. Lyme Disease is the fastest growing vector-borne disease in the United States. Nationwide, more than 20,000 people per year are diagnosed with Lyme disease; however, it has been estimated that for every one reported case 10 go unreported. East-central Minnesota and much of Wisconsin comprise one of the more Lyme endemic areas in the United States. The Minnesota Lyme Action Support Group is a non-profit organization working toward increased awareness and prevention of Lyme disease. For more information, go to www.mlasg.com.
