Sarah's journey: It all started with a lump on her jaw. An oral surgeon did a biopsy. In January, Sarah was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone and soft tissue cancer in children. So the journey began for Sarah and her family - parents Mike and Jill Grunewald of Watkins and little brother Carter, 4 years old - who are also caught up in the journey. St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball is sponsoring a spaghetti supper benefit for the family from 4:30-8 p.m. Saturday, April 12 (watch for further details). Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match up to $2,000 of the funds raised. Donations can be made out to: St. John's Lutheran (for Gunewald family), P.O. Box 307, Kimball, Minn. 55353 - to get matching funds. Sarah's journey includes trips to Children's Hospital in the Cities, for assessments and chemotherapy treatments. Some of the medicines make her sick and uncomfortable. She has gone through several stays at the hospital, the loss of hair, constant blood counts and one blood transfusion. Sarah is a trouper and doing well with the treatments. She is facing surgery after the first three months of treatments and then will complete the chemo for seven months after surgery, so the journey has just begun (check Web site CaringBridge.org and type in sarahgrunewald when you get to the site to follow Sarah's journey). The family is grateful to family and friends whose support and prayers are helping them through this journey.
