Dean Ranta of Litchfield, formerly of South Haven, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 55. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingston with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 17, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Dean Craig Ranta was born Sept. 10, 1952, in St. Cloud to Wayne "Bud" and Yvonne (Jones) Ranta. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1970 and served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Dean was employed by Adolphson & Peterson Construction Co. for numerous years as a cement finisher before starting his company Redwood Developers. Dean married Karen (Hurrle) Peterson Feb. 23, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nev. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and Nascar, as well as a love for fast cars. He liked spending time with his family and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his parents. Dean is survived by his wife Karen; children Erin (and Patrick) Scapanski and David Ranta of Sartell; grandson Evan Scapanski; stepson Chris Peterson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister and brother Kathy (and Jon) Rick of California and Jerry (and Andrea) Ranta of St. Cloud; nieces and nephews; and other family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Erickson, Kevin Ruprecht, Dean Kaskinen and Shawn Stuve. Barb Root will provide music for the service.
