The Regional Spelling Bee for Central Minnesota was held Thursday, Feb. 21, at St. John's University. Due to the large number of spellers in this region, there are two identical bees held. The top four spellers from two Spelling Bees will advance to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee Tuesday, March 11 at the Holiday Inn, St. Cloud. Winners from each of the Bees are: Morning regional spelling bee session: Christina Huling, a sixth-grade student at Annandale Middle School, first place. Her parents are Gerald and Karen Huling. Christina's winning word was "durwan." Peter Doyle, an eighth-grade student at ROCORI Middle School in Cold Spring, second place. He is the son of Justin Doyle and Lita Lawler. Afternoon regional spelling bee session: Ali Fuller, a seventh-grade student at Chisago Lakes Middle School at Lindstrom, first place. She is the daughter of Wendy and Brian Fuller. Ali's winning word was "efficacy." Matt Schultz, an eighth-grade student at St. Michael-Albertville Middle School at St. Michael, second place. He is the son of Dave and Mardeen Schultz.
