Kimball's matmen fall at Sections

The Kimball Wrestling team closed out the team dual meet portion of the season with a 47-31 loss to Eden Valley-Watkins in the first round of the Section 5A wrestling tournament last Tuesday. The Cubs finished the season with a record of 7-13. Leading the way for the Cubs was freshman Tyler Kuechle who recorded a pin with just 11 seconds left in the match to give the Cubs the early six-point lead at 103. Seventh-grader Travis Wills picked up his first varsity win by means of a second period pin at 130. At 140, it was senior Derek Orbeck who made quick work of his opponent pinning him in only 55 seconds. Mitch Pramann, a freshman at 145, won a good match by a score of 7-0. Junior Luke Schiefelbein kept his winning ways going as he picked up a major decision by a score of 11-3 at the 171-pound weight class. To finish off the evening it was senior Mitch Fischer at heavyweight with the early second period pin. In the end, it was Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City earning the state tournament berth and representing Section 5A. The Section 5A Individual Wrestling Tournament will be held Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Kimball High School. Friday wrestling will start around 5 p.m. and Saturday will start with the semi-final matches at noon. Come out and support the Cubs as they try to send some individuals to the State Tournament.
