Funds set up for fire victims

Funds have been set up at the Freeport State Bank and at the Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union to assist Gerald Wensmann and his family with expenses after a fire destroyed a barn at their farm near New Munich. In early December 2007, Melrose and Freeport Fire Departments responded to a fire that broke out at Wensmann's farm. The building that was destroyed housed animals. Some animals were saved due to the efforts of Wensmann himself as well as friends, neighbors and fire fighters. Numerous animals perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Funds have been established at the Freeport State Bank and Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union to help the Wensmanns. Donations can be made to The Wensmann Fire Fund at: any of the three Freeport State Bank locations, Freeport, New Munich and Melrose or any of the nine Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union locations, Freeport, Melrose, St. Joseph, Sauk Centre, Cold Spring, Grey Eagle, Paynesville, Albany, or Long Prairie. Donations will also be accepted by mail at: The Wensmann Fire Fund, Freeport State Bank, PO Box 232, Melrose, Minn. 56352 or The Wensmann Fire Fund, Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union, PO Box 160, Melrose, Minn. 56352.
