8th-grade girls' basketball

The Kimball Cubs played Rockford, Tuesday Feb. 5. In their first meeting, Kimball won 30-14.   Kimball played a very aggressive game offensively; this led to several costly turnovers, but it also helped the Cubs win a decisive 41-10 victory. Six Cub players contributed on offense. Liz Kastanek led the charge with 11 points, Mandy Wittenberg had 10, Brooke Merten and Emily Donnay both had eight, Erin Dingmann added four, and Jen Gilpatrick had two points. The Cubs once again out-rebounded the Rockets 33-16 with Liz Kastanek leading the team with 11 rebounds. Once again, all of the Cub players who played contributed with at least one rebound. Kastanek had 11, Emily Donnay had six, Mandy Wittenberg five, Jen Gilpatrck three, Brooke Merten and Kayla Overland each had two, and Rachel Arnold, Erin Dingman, Sam Stuve, and Kelsey Teiesen each had one rebound. The Cubs went into half-time with a nice 21-8 lead, but put the game away with several turnover fast breaks early in the second half. Liz Kastanek had four steals, Rachel Arnold and Brooke Merten had three steals, and Sam Stuve had one steal.
