Shawny Kramer took first in the section meet and advances to the state meet in the discus throw. Shawny will be competing in the State Meet held at Hamline University Friday June 11, and Saturday June 12. Great Job Shawny!
The track team had 20 athletes competing at the section 5A track meet held at St. John's University Wednesday, June 2. The girls' team placed fifth, and the boys' team placed 19th. There were new school records and Personal Bests set. In the 100-meter hurdles, Nathan McCann placed fourth in the prelim, with a time of 16.62 and seventh with a time of 16.87 in the finals. In the 100-meter dash, prelims Tyler Loch tied for ninth place with a time of 11.73 and De'Angelo James placed 12th with a time of 11.86. In the girls' 4x200 meter relay, the team of Molly Hesse, Liz Kastanek, Rachel Arnold and Samantha Stuve took third place with a time of 1:51.04. The boys' 4x200-meter relay team of Joe James, Alex Mies, Ryan McCann, and Tyler Loch placed fifth with a time of 1:34.96. In the 1600-meter run, Larissa Anthofer placed sixth with a time of 5:32.07. In the boys' 4x100-meter relay, the team of De'Angelo James, Trevor Baumann, Erik Mares, and Ryan McCann placed eighth with a time of 46.67. This was a very close race. The eight teams finished with in 2.37 seconds of each other, with Foley taking first in 44.10 seconds. In the girls' 400-meter dash, Rachel Arnold place third with a time of 60.16, and Molly Hesse placed fourth with a time of 61.17. The top three girls finished in.19 seconds of each other. In the boys' 400-meter dash, Alex Mies placed seventh with a time of 53.23 and Joe James placed ninth with a time of 53.76. In the girls' 800-meter run, Larissa Anthofer placed third with a time of 2:29.79. In the girls' 200-meter dash, Brittany Hesse placed 15th in the prelims with a time of 27.91. In the boys' 200-meter dash, Tyler Loch placed fifth in the prelims with a time of 23.40 and eighth in the finals with a time of 23.86, Trevor Baumann placed 16th in the prelims with a time of 24.59. In a very close 4x400-meter relay race, the team of Brittany Hesse, Amber Besonen, Rachel Arnold, and Molly Hesse took second place with a time of 4:11.97. In the boys' 4x400-meter relay, the team of Trevor Baumann, Danny Lochen, Joe James and Alex Mies placed sixth with a time of 3:41.12. In the girls' long jump, Morgan Meyer placed 13th with a jump of 14' 9.5". In the girls' pole vault, Macki Nelson placed seventh with a vault of 9' 1". In the girls' shot put, Sarah Messer placed eighth with a throw of 32' 8.75" and Shawny Kramer placed 10th with a throw of 30' 11". In the girls' discus throw Shawny Kramer, took first place with a throw of 120' 9".
The girls placed fifth, and the boys placed 19th overall.
Coach Jason Mortenson said "The coaching staff is incredibly proud of the athletes and their efforts this season. All the athletes always competed and didn't back down from anyone. It was pleasing to see the athletes earning all-conference, 20 individuals qualifying for the section meet, and some having a realistic shot at going to state. The ladies had a great season and finished fifth in the section meet. The guys had a great season also, and really improved across the board from last year. The following athletes also earned Allstate Academic Awards. The criteria for receiving this award is: the athlete has to maintain a 3.6 GPA in the classroom, and have earned all-conference honors, make the state honor roles or, be a state meet participant. This year's team had 15 seniors finish their last season of high school track and graduate. Some seniors have been in the track program since elementary school, Macki Nelson, who started track the summer after second grade (10 years), and Alex Mies who started the summer after third or fourth grade (8 or 9 years).
