The Kimball Cubs advanced to the final four of Sub-Section 5A by taking second in the Section 5A West playoffs. The final four were Osakis and Kimball from the West and Barnum and Braham from the East. After a postponment June 1, the playoffs continued Wednesday.

Osakis went against Barnum and the Cubs took on the Braham Bombers in an elimination game in the double elimination tournament. The Cubs jumped out to a quick start as Tiffany Berscheid tripled and scored as did Megan Garding for a 2-0 lead. Braham came back with one run in the bottom of the inning, but the Kimball defense would carry the day, as that would be Braham's last score. The Cubs extended the lead to 3-1, and then to 5-1 with Tesslynn Callander, Megan Garding, and Shantel Tschida scoring. The Cubs held the 5-1 lead for the remainder of the game to elimninate Braham and move into the Section semis against Osakis. The winner of that game would then take on Barnum in the championship round for a trip to the state tournament.

Kimball and Osakis would meet for the third time this season and much to the Cubs misfortune the Silverstreaks would win all three games to end the Cubs season. Osakis jumped out to a big first inning lead by tallying seven runs. The Cubs would come back with a three run third sparked by Tschida, Callander, Garding, and Megan Libbesemier and then get four more in the fourth with Shannon Donnay, Garding, Beth Libbesmeier, and Megan Libbesmeier again leading the attack. However, the Cubs couldn't shut down the Osakis offense which matched the Kimball scoring, and the big first inning lead held up and Osakis prevailed. Osakis moved into the champions bracket against Barnum while the Cubs season ended with a third place finish in the Section 5A playoffs.

Eight Kimball seniors completed their eligiblity this season: Tesslynn Callander, Erin Gilpatrick, Kristen Kuechle, Melissa Konz, Beth Libbesmeier, Shantel Tschida, Kelsey Vigoren, and Abby Zoller. Junior letterwinners were Megan Garding, Shannon Donnay, Melody Rose, and Natalie Stein. Megan Libbesmeier and Tiffany Berscheid were sophomore members of the team. Kimball had four players selected to CMC all-conference team. Tesslynn Callander and Megan Garding were first team selections with Megan Libbesmeier and Tiffany Berscheid selected second team. Local award winners were Most Valuable Player: Tesslynn Callander, Most Valuable Bat: Megan Garding, Most Valuable Glove: Tesslynn Callander, Team Player: Beth Libbesmeier, and Coaches Award: Kelsey Vigoren. Callander, Vigoren, Shantel Tschida, and Abby Zoller were Academic All-State and All-conference for having GPA above 3.70. The team GPA qualifed the team for a Silver Academic Award from the Softball Coaches Association.

Captains for the 2011 season will by Megan Garding and Megan Libbesmeier. The 2010 season is over but the memories of a stirring playoff run will linger and hopefully inspire the next group of Kimball softball players to strive for greater heights. A subsection runnerup and Section third place finish are fitting rewards for this years team but goals that future squads will try to equal or surpass.
