Thursday, May 27, at 9:58 p.m., Meeker County Sheriff's Office responded to a train/car accident near the Canadian Pacific Railroad crossing and Central Avenue within the city of Watkins.
The Canadian Pacific eastbound train struck a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant driven by Louise Mary Loch, age 53, of Sartell. Loch was taken to the St. Cloud Emergency Room where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant was on the tracks and also traveling eastbound at the time of the accident. The train applied the brakes and struck the vehicle at a slow rate of speed. The Sheriff's Office is investigating this accident. Other agencies that helped at the scene were the Watkins Fire and Rescue, Watkins Ambulance, and the Kimball Police Department.
Authorities are calling the incident an accident, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
