Mary Ann Ashfeld of Watkins died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. She was 85.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 29, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Fr. John Brunner officiating. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery.
Mary Ann Ashfeld was born to Michael and Susan (Loch) Bauer March 28, 1925, in Eden Valley. She married Victor Ashfeld April 24, 1945, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. They farmed in Watkins until retiring in 1982 when they moved to a home on Clear Lake. In 1999, they moved to a patio home in Watkins. Victor died in 2005, and Mary Ann became a resident at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring in 2008.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, and was active with the Council of Catholic Women, the Mission group, and was a faithful worker at the Catholic Order of Forester's bingo night. She was a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included playing cards, fishing, bowling, gardening, and square dancing. She especially enjoyed cooking, knitting, quilting, and crocheting.
Mary Ann was preceded in deah by her parents; husband Victor; daughter-in-law Barb Ashfeld; grandchildren Tanya Steichen, Jennifer Ashfeld, and Scott Ashfeld; great-granddaughter Chloe Manuel; sisters Alice Dockendorf and Laurie Holthaus; and brother Bob Bauer.
She is survived by her children Ron (and Anne) Ashfeld of Rosemount, Gary (and Karen) Ashfeld of Cold Spring, Gloria (and Dave) Quast of Garrison, Sandie Steichen of St. Cloud, and Wayne Ashfeld of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters Eileen (and Vernie) Hennen of Watkins, Luella Looman of Watkins, and Mike, Jr. (and Donna) Bauer of Richmond.
Music will be by Mary Streit and the church choir. Casket bearers will be grandchildren Jeff Steichen, David Steichen, Brian Quast, Jackie Nelson, Tonya Dunham, and Melissa Ecker. Arrangments were by the Ertl Funeral Home of Watkins.
