Fifteen members of the Kimball FFA Chapter competed at the Minnesota State FFA convention April 25-27. Freshmen Alyssa Jones, Kelsey Libbesmeier, Kaylee Petty, and Hannah Zipoy earned a bronze medal in the Forestry career development event. The Meats Evaluation team also earned a bronze medal for grading and identifying various cuts of meat. Competing on the meats team were Olivia Fischer, Steph Konz, and Andrew Kieke. The Dairy Foods team, comprised of Katelyn Asfeld, Lauren Edwards, Luke Serbus, and Michaela Tagney, earned a silver medal at the state contest. Luke Serbus was also the ninth-high individual in the state contest. Matt Massman, Jonathan Massmann, Michael Rose, and Curt Spoden earned a silver medal in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation contest.
Andrew Kieke placed third in state for his grain production entrepreneurship SAE (supervised agricultural experience). Andrew organized and planted a corn test plot to research what varieties grow best in this area.
FFA members also enjoyed listening to inspiring speakers, attending educational workshops, and meeting FFA members from across the state.
Members will be recognized at the annual FFA Awards Banquet Wednesday, May 26, at the high school. The banquet begins at 7 pm. FFA members will also receive greenhand and chapter degrees, FFA letters, and introduce the new officer team at the banquet.
