Dorthy Kalkbrenner, formerly of the Kimball area died May 6, 2010, in Denver, Colo. She was 70.
Services will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball.
Dorthy Mae Bogatzki Voss-Kalkbrenner was born to Albert and Evelyn Bogatzki Aug. 12, 1939, in Arlington, Minn. The Bogatzki family lived and farmed there with Evelyn's sister's family until they moved about 1949 to Eden Valley. Dorthy graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1957. She worked in the Twin Cities area for a few short years until she met Ronald Carl Voss. They moved to Belle Plaine, Minn. April 1959, where their daughters Barbra Ann and Wanda Mae were born. Ronald died in a fatal car accicident. She moved back to Eden Valley for the birth of their third daughter Dorthy Renee.
Dorthy worked at Animal Fair in Eden Valley, Land O'Lakes in Litchfield, Toro in Willmar, and Malco Products in Annandale. She also worked as a cook at Stella's Caf in South Haven.
In 1969, she met and married Rudolph Kalkbrenner, a widower with two children Edward and Renee. They made their home in Kingston. They moved to a farm near Kimball where they spent the rest of their married life. Two sons, Keith Allen and Lance Kelly, were born to them. Rudolph died in 1999. Dorthy returned to school as a non-traditional student and earned a degree as a machinist. Lance was killed in a car accident. Dorthy and Keith helped each other with responsibilities of the family farm. After Keith was married, Dorthy moved to Larammie, Wyo., to live closer to daughter Barb. She worked in the school system with preschoolers and kindergarten children as a classroom "grandma." When Barb married Tom Goodell, Dorthy moved with them to Trinidad, Colo., where she stayed until January of this year, when she moved to live with Dorthy in Denver, Colo., until her death.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Ronald Voss and Rudolph Kalkbrenner; son Lance Kalkbrenner; stepson Edward Kalkbrenner; son-in-law John Peters; sister Evelyn Laura, nephew Clifford Lee and niece Evelyn Laureen.
She is survived by children Barb (and Tom) Goodell of Trinidad, Colo., Wanda Peters of Santa Cruz, Calif., Dorthy (and Sam) Pazuchanics of Wheatridge, Colo., Keith (and Lori) Kalkbrenner of South Haven, grandchildren Jason, Stacy, Candice, Charlea, and Ashley; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Ervin (and Kathy) of Bertha, Minn., Richard (and Lorinda) of Albany, Andrew (and Kathy) of South Haven, Norman (and Kathy) of Cold Spring; sisters Velma Young of Alexandria, Minn., and Lucille (and David) Penkert of Hector; also many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
