On Monday, there was snow on the field and the game with EVW was postponed. Tuesday's weather cooperated and the Cubs were able to take on BBE at the Kimball softball field. The game went into extra innings but the ending was to the favor of BBE as they prevailed 5-3 over the Cubs. BBE struck first scoring single runs in the second and third innings. The Cubs came back with Kendra Albers, Tesslynn Callander, and Brittnay Simmons scoring for Kimball. Simmons score in the fifth inning gave Kimball a 3-2 lead. BBE tied the game in the sixth with a homerun. The Cubs had a threat in the bottom of the seventh when Sammi Stewart-James and Simmons reached base. But the Cubs couldn't get the big hit and they were stranded at second and third. BBE won the game in the eighth with a single, double and another single to get two runs and the victory 5-3. Ashley Schiefelbein pitched the entire game giving up four earned runs with 3 strikeouts and no walks. Thursday the Cubs faced two time CMC conference champion Maple Lake. Maple Lake had won 34 conference games coming into Kimball and they left town with number 35. Maple Lake scored twice in the first and third innings with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Five of the seven runs were scored with two outs which was frustrating as the Cubs were one out away from getting out of the innings with no runs scored. However, the Maple Lake pitcher didn't need much run support as she allowed no runs and only two Kimball hits. Amanda Kuseske and Kendra Albers were the only Kimball hitters to get hits. Maple Lake recorded nine strikeouts and no walks to shut down the Kimball offense. Ashley Schiefelbein again went the distance and for the second straight game didn't walk a batter, but the Irish did collect 12 base hits. This week will be a busy one for the Cubs. They travel to Pierz on Monday, Rockford on Tuesday, and HLW-W on Thursday. Saturday, April 26, they take part in the Kimball Invitational and will play Milaca and Royalton in a double header.
