The Regional Spelling Bee for Central Minnesota will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, at St. John's University, Science Building Auditorium, Collegeville. There will be two similar Spelling Bees, morning at 9 a.m. and afternoon at 1 p.m. The reason for the two "Bees" is the number of students participating. The top two spellers from each "Bee" will advance to the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee Tuesday, March 11, at the Holiday Inn in St. Cloud. The first place winners from each "Bee" received a first place trophy and dictionary. Second place winners received a second place trophy and will also advance to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee. Forum Communications is the official newspaper sponsor of the Multi-Region Spelling Bee. One winner from the Multi-State Regional Bee will go to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The Service Cooperatives are very grateful to Forum Communications for providing this opportunity and including the schools in our service area. Their sponsorship includes the Regional Spelling Bees for the following service cooperatives: Lakes Country Service Cooperative - Fergus Falls; Northeast Service Cooperative - Mountain Iron; Northwest Service Cooperative - Thief River Falls; Resource Training & Solutions - St. Cloud; Southeast Service Cooperative - Rochester; and Southwest/West Central Service Cooperatives - Marshall. Additionally, Minnesota Timberwolves is a sponsor of the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee. They are providing free and discounted tickets to Regional and State participants of the "Bee". The Regional Spelling Bees are coordinated by Sandra Cordie, director of educational programs.
