Cubs fall to Lakers
The Kimball Cubs hosted the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers last Friday evening,
March 2, on Senior Night. The Lakers wasted no time getting started and jumped out to a 9-2 lead. At the nine-minute mark of the first half, the lead increased to 26-10 in favor of HL-W-W. At the half, the Cubs trailed by 24 (43-19).
The Cubs were able to score a little easier in the second half and put 30 points on the board. Their defense was also better in holding the Lakers to 32 points. The final score on the night was HL-W-W 75 and Kimball 49.
Cole Sanders led the Cub rebounders with nine boards. Cameron Hunt was the lone scorer in double figures for Kimball with 19 points. The Cubs shot 71 percent (15/21) from the free-throw line, and 31 percent (15/38) from the field.
Kimball Drops Finale to Rockets
In their final regular season game of the year, the Kimball Cubs traveled to Rockford Saturday night. This game was post-phoned from last Tuesday evening, Feb. 28. The game stayed close the whole first half as the Rockets and Cubs battled. Rockford took a six-point lead (28-22) at the break.
In the second half, Rockford continued to build their lead. With 3:39 left, the Cubs trailed by 14. Over the next two minutes, the Cubs rallied and cut the deficit to four points. Time ran out on the Cubs as they fell by a score of 60-53.
Three players reached double digits for the Cubs. Jarred Merchant, Austin Ruehle and Cameron Hunt each had 11 points on the night. Merchant also hauled in eight rebounds. Hunt dished out five assists and had five steals. The Cubs finished the regular season with a record of 7-17 overall and 3-11 in the conference. The Cubs travel back to Rockford for the first round of tournament play Thursday, March 8.
