Thelma McKenzie of Hermosa, S.D., and formerly of Kingston, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Rapid City, S.D. She was 86. Funeral services were held May 9 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with Pastors Douglas Free and Peter Sulzle officiating. Interment was in the Folsom Cemetery near Hermosa, S.D. Thelma D. McKenzie was born Sept. 9, 1921, in rural Kingston, the oldest daughter of Walfred and Viola (Isaacson) Stein. She attended country school near her home. She married Lloyd McKenzie Aug. 19, 1939, at the family homestead; he preceded her in death in August 1999. Together Thelma and Lloyd moved to Montana in 1946, returning to Minnesota in the summers. They later retired and moved to Arizona. Thelma loved gardening, and was an avid fisherman all her life. She was also a life-long member of Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd. Thelma is survived by daughter Beverly (and Jim) Varelman of Hermosa, S.D.; sister Mavis (and Jim) Hillyard of Burnsville, Minn; grandchildren Alan Ellingson, Karla Arthur, Darryl Ellingson, and Kristen Stoddard; and three great-grandchildren.
