Calling all singers, dancers, actors: Kimball Community Playhouse will be holding auditions for its summer production, "Honk!" Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the FACS and Choir Rooms at Kimball Area High School. Jody Markgraf is directing with Cherie Ploof returning as music director. The Ugly Duckling. Written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, the show debuted in England and in 2000, won the Olivier Award (Britain's version of the Tony Award) beating out The Lion King. There are 24 distinct character roles for all ages from 12 to adult, with casting allowing for an additional large group of younger children ages 5-10, making "Honk!" a perfect show for families with younger children to participate in. Auditioners should come dressed in comfortable clothing and be prepared to learn dance steps. Auditioners will also be asked to do some reading and singing but do not need to prepare a selection ahead of time. The characters are as follows: Ugly, the Ugly Duckling, male, lead; Ida, Ugly's mother, female, lead; The Cat, "villain," male, solos and duets; Drake, Ugly's father, male, soloist; Ducklings, Ugly's siblings, Four, male/female; Maureen, Ida's best friend, female, duet; Turkey, the school's headmaster, male, some solo; Grace, a distinguished duck, female, soprano; Henrietta, another friend of Ida's, female; Dot, goose, female, duet; Greylag, befuddled Goose, male, duet; Goose Squadron, male/female, 3-4; Penny, a beautiful female swan, solo; Father and Mother Swan, Penny's parents, small role; Bullfrog, male, duet, character role; Queenie, female cat, duet, character role; Lowbutt, "house" hen, friend of Queenie, duet, character role; Fish, children ages 5-10; and Froglets, children ages 5-10.
